Right on, bro. It looks like you have been looking at most of the major dealers sites. The good news is that a decient new systems will start @ $600 and go up. Stick to any of these name brands and you'll be fine. If your ready to let 1k go, you have a few different options. What do you need it for...? A notebook is lighter in weight, but normally smaller. Do you plan on lugging this thing around all the time...? They put some pretty powerful mobile multi-core cpu's these days into these things, but thier not needed in most peoples cases. Let me know...

(Also, I personally would drop apple from your list unless you interface with them often...they are more often mistakened as gay magnets in a non-hippie enviorment).

roger that bro, thanks. i was planning on just doing minor small business work on it. anything for gaming will be left to my cpu. the apple just came into the picture recently because i saw them at the local apple store and started looking at it.

things i would like though are speed, ability to access the internet in common areas where wireless is, and a good screen, resolutions.

i have seen great deals lately with lenovo, hp, and dell. i am not in a rush, but plan on buying one in the next couple of months or so.

Just make sure of a few things in the 600-1000 range:

Almost all new laptops come with Vista, make sure it's not Vista basic. Home Premium or better.

Get a Dual Core processor,

2 GB of ram (or Vista won't run right).

Take a look at your local big box store if your ordering it online to get a handle on if you want a 17" or a 15" screen.

if you plan to play games with it, make sure it has a decent video card. that seems to be a rarity in most laptops, but there are a few with really nice video cards that even have their own ram also, if you get a screamer, you may want to buy a cooler for it as well if you plan to play games. I Fried mine twice b/c i didnt have one
